Maingot Scholarships

Weekly violin lessons for children on free-school meals

Working in partnership with the Maingot Charitable Trust and Chetham's School of Music, the Maingot Scholarship Programme provided weekly violin lessons and performing opportunities to 20 children from Claremont, St Mary's, St Cuthbert's and Plymouth Grove primary schools.

The 3-year project, which ran from 2018-2021, was available to families on free-school meals. Children on the programme received weekly violin lessons from a professional violinist from the Royal Northern College of Music and termly visits to Chetham's School of Music - helping children who might otherwise not be able to afford private music lessons the opportunity to explore, and reach, their musical potential. Participation was completely free of charge for all partner schools, children and parents.

In July 2021, we published an Impact Report with our findings based on case studies of 10 children on the programme, which is available to read here.
